Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we mainly delivered baskets of fruit, milk and snacks to offices and commercial buildings around London. As soon as lockdown was announced, the demand skyrocketed for our fruit & veg boxes. We are now dedicated to picking, packing, and delivering the very best fresh produce to London homes, 5 days a week.
John Barrow (real name!) worked in the fruit & veg trade at New Covent Garden Market for many years before The Covent Garden Fruit Company was founded in 2015 with Fev, who heads up the pick & pack team at the market.
John says: My career started in the courier business - organising deliveries to London and beyond, has been part of my daily work for as long as I can remember. When I developed a bad back, I visited several medical professionals to remedy my spinal problems, the last of which advised me to eat with the seasons. My back ache disappeared within a fortnight and I’m happy to say, it never returned.
Fev says: I head up our small team working in New Covent Garden Market every day. We are dedicated to sourcing the freshest produce for our many customers all over London. John and I are focused on creating the fewest food miles and the minimum plastic waste.
We are very pleased to donate much of our surplus fruit & veg to City Harvest - a fantastic charity organisation who put fresh food to good use in a sustainable way, by redistributing the produce to organisations around London to help feed the hungry.
During lockdown we have donated boxes of fresh fruit & veg to The Torridon Primary School in Catford and the Anesthetic Department at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.
